Bajo el signo de libra de una asoleada mañana del 2 de Octubre, nació la que llegaría a ser la mejor intérprete de música ranchera,  Ángeles Ochoa. Hasta que…. “Un día voy a cantar con ese mariachi” estas fueron las palabras que una niña de tres años dirigió a sus padres al estar viendo por televisión un hospedaje a la Señora Lola Beltrán.

            Años después, esa niña llamada Ángeles Ochoa, hizo realidad su sueña y logro cantar con el Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, llegando a figurar como una de las máximas exponentes de la música Ranchera en nuestro país.

      Ángeles Ochoa se presento en público por primera vez cuando tenía tan solo seis años, en una kermesse organizada a fin de recaudar fondos para una iglesia. Dos años más tarde, tuvo la oportunidad de alternar con David Reynoso y Perla  LeDuc: tía de Ángeles. Fue precisamente durante esta presentación, cuando Juanita Wood gran defensora de las costumbres y de la música Mexicana, la invito a participar en su programa “Tijuana, La Ventana de México”. Gracias a sus participaciones en este programa, Ángeles consiguió un contrato para presentarse en el Millón Dollar en la ciudad de Los Ángeles y en el importante lienzo charro Pico Rivera. Así mismo Ángeles se presento en los mejores escenarios de su natal Tijuana. De este modo comenzó a captar la atención de la prensa y la televisión Nacional y en 1981 es invitada a formar parte del elenco del programa “Siempre en Domingo”.

            A raíz de su intervención en este programa, la carrera artística de Ángeles Ochoa empezó a ascender rápidamente, llegando a alternar con grandes figuras como el señor Pedro Vargas (Q.E.D.) y Dora Maria en la Ceremonia del Grito de Independencia, celebrando por el Consulado Mexicano en Nueva York.

  Un año mas tarde, Ángeles participo en el IV Festival de la Canción Ranchera” con el tema “Puro Amor”, quedando en la terna de la Revelación Femenina, ese mismo año, se presenta en la OTI con el tema “Mensajera de Amor” del autor Federico Méndez y además es invitada especial al festival “Juguemos a Cantar” en la gira de 55 presentaciones en toda La Republica Mexicana, siendo aquí donde recibe su primera oportunidad de grabar.

            El Primer L.P. de Ángeles Ochoa se titulo “Gracias Amigos”, y se grabo bajo la producción y dirección de Rigoberto Alfaro, contando con la participación del Mariachi Oro y Plata de Pepe Chávez.

            En 1983, Ángeles Ochoa canto durante ocho meses consecutivos en el Teatro de la Ciudad, y en Noviembre fue contratada por CBS/Columbia México.

Estrella de Jalisco has  had the distinguished honor of being invited to perform at the prestigious Mariachi Festival held in Las Vegas, Nevada for several years now due to being asked back by popular demand. They performed on the same stage as did: Sol de Mexico and Mariachi Vargas.  They have also been invited to accompany ranchero singer Aida Cuevas and Lupillo Rivera on stage.  Other top performers that they have been invited to share the stage with include: Cristian Castro & Armando Manzanero.

      In October 2007, 21 students were given instruments, weekly lessons, and a traje. Ten months later, they performed in front of thousands of people at the SB Mariachi Festival. They performed three songs and won the hearts of locals and visitors. The students practiced weekly, taught by credentialed teachers, and have become the spirit of Santa Barbara. They have raised their confidence levels and have given families pride to say..their child is in a mariachi. We have bought and altered 21 trajes and the students have played at various events. They currently know “De Colores” and “El Rey”, and “Cielito Lindo” . We also collaborated with a Ballet Folklorico group. We have been covered by television and newspapers in both languages. The interest is overwhelming throughout Southern Santa Barbara County and our goal is to recruit 60 children for the 2008-2009 school year.
